HPSP - Veterinary School

The Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) for Veterinary School, offered by the U.S. Army, is a focused scholarship opportunity for students enrolled in American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medicine Doctor (VMD) programs. This program is designed exclusively for U.S. citizens committed to pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. The HPSP provides a three-year scholarship that covers a significant portion of the educational journey for veterinary students.

A vital feature of this scholarship is the comprehensive financial support it offers. The HPSP covers the full tuition for the duration of the program, significantly reducing the financial burden associated with veterinary education. Additionally, the scholarship provides a monthly stipend of over $3,110.00, which assists students in managing their living expenses and daily financial needs. The program also includes reimbursements for specific academic fees, further easing the financial commitments of veterinary students.

During their education, HPSP participants are immersed in unique Army training experiences. For 45 days each year, they receive the Active Duty pay of a Second Lieutenant during their Active Duty Training. This integration into the Army environment provides invaluable experience and insights distinct to the Army. Throughout their time in the HPSP program, veterinary students are appointed and commissioned as Second Lieutenants, branch unassigned, conferring a prestigious standing within the military ranks.

Upon completion of their veterinary program, HPSP participants are required to fulfill an Active Duty Obligation that is year-for-year for each year they receive the scholarship, with a minimum obligation of three years. Furthermore, HPSP graduates are expected to apply for and attend the First Year Graduate Veterinary Education (FYGVE) Program.
